Derek Hough and Hailey Erbert are grateful for life after getting into a horrific car accident before vacation.
The couple shared a video documenting the aftermath of an incident earlier in the month when paramedics were called and Erbert had his face sewn up.
“On December 12th Derek and I were in a rather horrific car accident in the mountains,” they wrote in a joint Instagram statement on Friday. It involved the fear of slipping off a tree and, worst of all, a mountain.”
In the video, Arbert is seen bloodied and bruised as he is stitched up by doctors at the hospital. did.
Arbert, 28, looked terrified as he sat in the ambulance, but Huff, 37, cheered himself up later with lots of snacks from the grocery store for dinner.
“What do you do after you’ve been in a car accident? Go to the emergency room and get stitched up,” Huff says in the video, as he captures Arblet in his pajamas, all sewn up. “We will have a snack.”
They ate ranch-soaked pizza, chips, and a variety of candies.
“What a night,” said Hough, adding Erbert: “What a night.” Bummer.
Huff pointed out that one of the “most terrifying” parts of the accident was that Erbert remembers nothing.
“The scariest thing is that Haley doesn’t remember anything. Afterwards, she was dazed and blood ran down her face and hilariously said we should go to dinner. It scared me. She came 20 minutes after the firefighters arrived,” Hough recalled in the comments section of their post.
Despite their injuries, the two said they had much to be grateful for after being rescued by first responders.
“Given the circumstances, there are many things to be grateful for. First, that no one else was involved. Second, the prompt response from paramedics,” they wrote.
They also wrote that their injuries were minor and that “we are both fine”, with Erbert being “a bit banged, my face swollen and just four stitches on top. [her] eyebrow. ”
The Dancing With The Stars pros expressed how grateful they were for life and how their near-death experience was an eye-opener.
“More than ever, we realize how fragile life is and how important it is to love the people around you,” they said. I hope you have a good time, XO.”
Friends of the dancer flooded the comments section of the post wishing them a speedy recovery.
“Oh, I’m so glad you both are safe!!! Oh, thank goodness! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻,” wrote Peta Murgatroyd.
“I’m glad everyone is doing well! I can’t imagine how scared I was😢” said Lindsay Arnold Cusick.
“Oh my God! Thank you God. Sending you love and a speedy recovery. Soon you will be able to chew candy,” added Cheryl Burke.
Hough and Erbert got engaged in June after dating for seven years.
