Republican Lawmaker Denounced Spending Bill, Then Things Got Awkward For Him
Higgins was one of a number of House Republicans who voiced their opposition to a bill that would fund the federal government through September and is set to arrive before President Joe Biden for signature.
Other Republican opponents of the spending package include House Minority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-California), who denounced the bill in a letter endorsed by 13 others. included current and future members of Congress.
In his remarks, Higgins argued that Americans “feel cold, hungry and betrayed” by the House over the bill.
Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Massachusetts) responded with a disturbing revelation for Republicans.
“I think I should tell the gentleman I just spoke to that his veterans bill is actually said to be on the omnibus. He has the bill on this omnibus,” McGovern said. .
Massachusetts Democrats then asked how many House Republicans would speak after Higgins.
“Thank God,” McGovern said after hearing there were no more speakers.
