Report: NFL reviews Mac Jones’ ‘dirty’ hit against Eli Apple
Tom Brady and Buccaneers rally to beat Cardinals 19-16 in OT
Mack Jones addressed a controversial block at Eli Apple that prompted an NFL review during an appearance on WEEI’s Merloni, Fauria and MegO Show Monday afternoon.
The play initially appeared to be a touchdown fumble recovery, but was later ruled to be an incomplete pass.
Apple was following the play from behind, but Jones, who was a few yards ahead, dove into Apple’s feet and caused a collision.
“Obviously, I got off in front of him and got in the way and stopped him from slowing down Tyquan, who could obviously tackle there. I tried to stop him from approaching the fast man.
After Sunday’s game, Apple said Jones intentionally tripped him and called the play dirty. ESPN’s Ryan Clarke has been involved in the controversial play, calling Jones “the NFL’s Grayson Allen” and comparing the Patriots quarterback to the Milwaukee Bucks guard. , called for Jones’ suspension.
Jones said he didn’t intend to hurt Apple.
“It’s a split-second decision,” Jones said. “There are a lot of things involved. You’re trying to compete and it’s a physical game. You’re trying to help your team win. “They played a great game. I certainly didn’t mean to hurt anyone with that play…we all play hard and that’s just part of the game.”
