Boxer Gervonta Davis arrested for domestic violence in Florida
Boxing world champion Jerbonta “Tank” Davis was arrested Tuesday on domestic violence charges in Florida, according to prison records.
Records show the 28-year-old boxing star was imprisoned in the Broward County Jail on battery charge.
Details of the arrests and alleged domestic violence cases were not immediately available.
Davis has had previous domestic violence arrests. In 2020, he was caught on video forcibly grabbing his ex-girlfriend and his child’s mother by the throat at a charity basketball game at the University of Miami.
Davis surrendered to police days after the video circulated on Twitter and was charged with simple battery domestic violence.
Arrest reports at the time said the victim suffered injuries to his lip and chin.
Davis is scheduled to face Hector Luis Garcia on January 7 in Washington, DC. It’s unclear if his Tuesday arrest will affect the game.
The Baltimore native holds multiple world championship titles in three weight classes, including the WBA lightweight title since 2019.
He has been undefeated in his professional boxing career for over nine years, going 27-0.
