Austin’s cool concept expanding to the DFW area for 2021 has come to an end.
plow burgera food truck with a vegan menu located across from UNT in Denton, closed in December and has no plans to reopen.
A spokeswoman said the closure was based on a variety of factors, including the pandemic and unsustainable rises in commodity costs.
Plow Burger was founded in 2018 by Isaac Mogannam and partner Jason Sabala (founders of Austin’s Buzz Mill Coffee) and set up its first food truck location there.
They’ve been dubbed “a food truck haven for vegans and meat eaters,” with burgers so flavorful that meat lovers won’t even notice the difference, winning an award in 2018 for “plant-based burger supremacy.” Awarded. austin chronicle.
Their menu includes all-plant-based burgers, wings, and fries, including a campfire burger with cheese, pickles, mayonnaise, shoestring onions, and barbecue sauce.
The expansion to Denton was launched in July 2021 by veteran chef and manager Ed Soto, who has worked at restaurants such as Cru, Ferre and Coal Vines. He had worked with Moganum and was also a regular at Plowburger in Austin.
Filming was going well, but Soto got into a car accident in March after being hit by someone who was “going too fast.” His car was a total loss and he suffered injuries, including a broken wrist, but that wasn’t a factor in the closure, he says.
“I’m still recovering from it and could have a second surgery sometime in the next year or two,” Soto said. “But I am grateful to the staff, a wonderful crew who really got back on their feet after my accident.”
The company also underwent management changes, including the amicable departure of co-founder Moganum, who has developed other concepts such as the Mission Street burrito that does vegan/vegetarian burritos, nachos and suezers. Eat Fair Game is a new concept with a vegan twist on Italian food like pizza and pasta.
Denton continues to be a vegan mecca thanks to concepts like UNT’s groundbreaking all-vegan cafeteria, Mean Greens. Mashup Market, a vegan grocery store. Soulgood, a vegan restaurant on the campus of Texas Women’s University. Pepitas Vegan Cocina is a family-run vegan Mexican restaurant.
