Each year, tens of millions of vehicles are recalled in the United States to fix problems ranging from failing headlights and windshield wipers to more serious problems that can cause fires and crashes.

This year is no exception. The U.S. Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued his 300 recalls to major automakers in 2022, affecting millions of vehicles.

Car companies are required to email owners about recalls, but if a car is sold, the next owner may not get the notification. According to FOX Business, car dealers don’t have to repair recalled parts before they sell them, or even notify them of the recall when they sell the car. In many cases, car dealers are unaware that recalls are in place.

That’s why it’s so important for car owners to check for themselves if their car is covered by the recall.

How to check if your car is covered by a recall

Finding recalls for your car is easy.

To find out if your vehicle is covered by a recall, visit NHTSA’s recall website. You will be asked to enter your vehicle’s 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). This is usually marked on both the lower left corner of the car’s front windshield and on the driver’s side door jamb.

Enter your VIN number and NHTSA will tell you if you have an unrepaired vehicle that has been recalled in the last 15 years. I don’t know if your vehicle was previously subject to a recall and has since been repaired.

Ford: 67 recalls

Ford’s major recalls for 2022 include damaged driveshafts affecting approximately 250,000 F-250 and F-350 Super Duty vehicles, as well as approximately 350,000 Ford Escape and Broncos. There is an engine oil leak included.

Ford said it has received reports of 20 fires, including three that have set fire to nearby structures, which are linked to another major recall. Volkswagen: 45 recalls

Volkswagen recalled more than 246,000 SUVs in the US and Canada in March. This is because a faulty wire in his harness can sometimes cause sudden braking in traffic.

The recall comes three days after The Associated Press reported that 47 people had filed complaints to U.S. safety regulators about the issue and had been nearly rear-ended by other vehicles. Chrysler: 38 recalls

Mercedes-Benz: 33 recalls

The German automaker said in a recall notice that moisture can build up and cause corrosion in the car’s brake booster housing unit, causing vacuum leaks and poor braking performance.

General Motors: 32 recalls

In April, General Motors recalled nearly 682,000 compact SUVs due to possible windshield wiper failure.

In November, General Motors recalled nearly 340,000 large sport utility vehicles because daytime running lights may not turn off when the normal headlights are on.

The NHTSB said having both lights on at the same time could blind oncoming drivers and increase the risk of a collision. The recall affects select 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban models, as well as GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade models.

Kia: 24 recalls

Kia Motors recalled more than 410,000 vehicles in the US in January over concerns that airbags may not deploy in a crash.

The recall includes certain 2017-2019 Kia Sedona minivans, 2017-2019 Soul and Soul EV hatchbacks, and 2017-2018 Forte sedans and coupes.

In August, Hyundai and Kia instructed some owners of large SUVs to park outdoors, away from buildings, after a series of fires involving trailer hitch wiring.

The issue has caused South Korean automakers to recall more than 281,000 vehicles in the United States.

The same problem occurred two months later, with Kia recalling an additional 72,000 older Sportage small SUVs in the U.S., telling owners to park them outdoors and away from structures following reports of engine fires. Did.

Hyundai: 22 recalls

Tesla: 20 recalls

Tesla recalled more than 300,000 vehicles in the US in November. This is because a software glitch can cause the taillights to go out intermittently, increasing the risk of a collision.

Tesla said the glitch could affect one or both taillights on certain Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. Brake lights, backup lights and turn signal lights were not affected by the software issue.

BMW: 19 recalls
