The decision to sit McCoy out was made out of “out of caution” after he experienced additional concussion symptoms after Thursday’s practice.
Braff and Las Vegas Raiders’ Jarrett Stidham became the 63rd and 64th quarterbacks to start an NFL game this season, tying the 2007 no-strike record. When there were 87 different starters.

Signed on December 14, Brough learned on Friday morning that he would get the ball in Atlanta via Trace McSorley, who started Sunday night’s loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Kingsbury said he would give Bluff a chance to evaluate before choosing between McSorley and Braff in the season finale against the San Francisco 49ers.
Brough said he was “probably shocked” to hear he would start. He will make his first start since 2019, when the Detroit Lions went 0-5, but hasn’t thrown a pass in a game since 2020.
“You never know how many opportunities you have in this league.
When asked how McSorley took the news, Kingsbury replied, “He’s a competitor.”
Braff felt he was “comfortable” heading into Sunday’s game with both co-passing game coordinator and quarterback coach Cam Turner and Kingsbury working with him to teach him offense. He said he was.
“He’s done a good job this week,” said Kingsbury. “So let’s adjust the script to make him feel comfortable and let him play fast and perform at a high level.”
Braff, a Carrollton, Texas native, said he grew up watching Texas Tech conduct air raid operations, but never got the chance to play there.
“As a backup for this league, I have to prepare as if I’m going to play and then do my job,” Braff said. “Every time I stop along the way, I feel like this kind of opportunity presents itself.
But Bluff may be missing one of the Cardinals’ top targets on Sunday. I stopped.
