New Ford Mustang Racing Series Cars Promise to Take the Pony Car to the Track
Will there be a new Ford Mustang?
Fans can keep smiling a little longer. Ford is building a new generation of Mustang, the S650. The seventh generation of pony cars follows many other sad discontinuations, such as the Dodge Challenger and Charger.
Additionally, the new S650 race car includes the GT with its most powerful 5.0L Coyote V8 to date and the Dirk, the only naturally aspirated 5.0L V8 with 100 horsepower per liter in Ford model history. Includes hose. But Ford isn’t just looking to keep petrol engines in its pony cars on the road. The Blue Oval is back on track.
Can Mustang be a race car?
The street-legal V8 Ford Mustang is typically tail-happy yet track-compliant, but Ford’s new Racing Series car is a purpose-built race car. For example, Ford has said it will put the pony car into competition with the Mustang GT3 race car.
The car will compete in the International Motor Sport Association (IMSA) 2024 racing season. This includes the grueling 24 Hours of Daytona. Additionally, Ford Performance says the race initiative is a collaboration between Ford and Multimatic Motorsports to create a set of his GT3 racers outfitted with a 5.0L V8.
In addition, Blue Oval will enter NASCAR with a new Mustang derivative, challenging the roots of American oval racing. The NHRA-focused Factory X drag racing vehicle also lays rubber with a straight-line sprint. The S650 generation of cars will also evolve into GT4 and Australian V8 supercar rivals. Ford is serious about making its new pony car “run like hell.”
How much does the Ford Mustang GT4 cost?
The new Ford Mustang GT4 adds a high cost to existing Ford Mustang track-ready variants like the GT500. Given the cost of the 2022 Ford Mustang GT4, the new variant could cost $250,000 or more.
Of course, that money doesn’t just buy fast muscle cars. It buys Mustang-derived competitors for his GT4 race-day beasts like the Aston Martin Vantage GT4 and Toyota GR Supra GT4. Additionally, MotorTrend suggests that Ford’s upcoming GT4 will be on track in time for his 2023 racing season.
Is the Mustang a supercar or a muscle car?

Still, Ford is fielding a new Mustang derivative to compete in the Australian Supercar Championship. Ford is calling it a “Gen3” Mustang GT supercar, and it will be powered by a 600+ horsepower Coyote V8. The car is one of Blue Oval’s racing initiatives and in Australia he promises to put the S650’s best foot on the road.
