Augusta, GA (WRDW/WAGT) – We’ve all seen photos and videos of people stranded in airport disasters over the Christmas weekend.
We’re currently hearing from a local couple stranded in upstate New York.
On Dec. 21, Sharice Williams and her husband went on an anniversary trip she says she’ll never forget, but not for the reason she expected.
“We agreed to go ahead with the cancellation. The day has come. It’s been canceled again. I realized it wasn’t because of the weather. Something else was going on.”
What was supposed to be a 4-day trip to Buffalo, NY quickly turned into an 8-day trip after two canceled Southwest Airlines flights and spending over $2,000 to get home.
“I’m panicking. So am I going to panic and go home or will I run out of money? What’s the matter?” she asked.
Williams and her husband had to spend the night at the Toronto airport, which departed on Delta Air Lines on the morning of December 30th.
If this had happened years ago, she says, things would have been very different.
“We had the resources to try and get that money. But what about the people who couldn’t? The people who had to stay at the airport? will be sitting at the airport,” she said.
She has had no contact with Southwest Airlines since her flight was cancelled, and filed a complaint a few days ago.
“Oh, that’s nice. When we landed in Atlanta, I was like, ‘Thank you, God,'” she said.
Southwest Airlines CEO Bob Jones Announced apology for ‘huge puzzle’ He says the company is taking days to resolve. He also said the company will provide refunds and cover the costs to customers affected by the cancellation.
