Brian Ferentz: “I Did The Best I Could…”
Offensive coordinator Brian Ferencz provided his own assessment of his performance after being questioned at a press conference on Friday.
“I think we did everything we could this year to help the team win,” said Ferenc. “Did I succeed every week? No, did I succeed enough? I wish I could have won every game we played. That’s the bottom line for me.”
“My assessment is simple: Are we doing what it takes to win a football match? I think the record speaks for itself. I am a person who has
The Hawkeyes (7-5) rank 130th in total offense, 122nd in passing and scoring offense, and 123rd in rushing offense.
Ferenc understands that his work has been criticized.
“My focus is to do my job every day,” he said. “Do the criticisms get to me? Of course they do. My wife criticizes me on a daily basis. All of these come back to me in some way or another.”

“It doesn’t matter. My job is to wake up every day and lead my players to success. That’s it. Whatever my reaction to that has nothing to do with my ability to do my job.” I will stay focused on that.”
Iowa head coach Kirk Ferencz is Bryan’s father, so Burta is Brian Ferencz’s supervisor. Barta said on Friday that discussions about the coaching staff would take place later.
“People who have been around for a long time have heard me say first observe and evaluate[at the end of the season],” Barta said. “That’s exactly what Kirk has done in the past. That’s what he’s been doing this year. , he’ll go through the same process as always.
“Brian and Kirk’s relationship makes me more involved than I otherwise would have been. But the process used is exactly the same.”
Asked if there were circumstances under which Berta would dismiss Ferenc in a coach’s evaluation, Berta replied, “I’m going to wait until Kirk finishes evaluating him. I’ll wait and see how he goes through the planning process.”
Barta said there are metrics used in the evaluation process, but did not specify, saying only Ferentz uses the same metrics.
“Once the season is over, he’s going to go through that process like he always does,” Burta said. The only unique situation here is that I get more involved in just that one situation, but he sets the metric as usual. He will go through the process as usual and if he has anything to report about 2023, he will announce it.”
