BYU offensive lineman Shione Beikoso died in a construction accident in Kailua, Hawaii, the team announced late Friday.
“Rest in peace Sione. Until we meet again, God be with you,” the Cougars wrote on Twitter.
Prior to attending BYU, Veikoso served as a full-time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brazil from 2018-2020. He started his college life at Arizona State University.

He eventually transferred to BYU and played in one game during the 2022 college football season.Veikoso was a three-star high school recruit.

BYU Head Coach Kalani Shitake tweeted, “We are very saddened to learn of the tragic passing of one of our brothers, Sione Veikoso.” It is heartbreaking for all.We send our deepest condolences and prayers to his family and share their grief.Our love for you is eternal, Sione!”
According to KITV news in Honolulu, Veikoso was part of a crew working on a partially collapsed 15-foot retaining wall. Multiple people were trapped after the collapse.
Firefighters rushed to the scene, cleared debris and delivered it to those trapped, the report said. At least he had two critically ill.
“The BYU football family mourns the loss of our dear teammate and fellow Cougars Sione Beikoso,” BYU Athletic Director Tom Holmor said on Twitter. “May his family and friends feel our love and faith during this most sacred and difficult time. May peace be with you now and forever.”
