Man dead, woman critically injured after car plunges into Brooklyn rail yard
Police believe the driver, a 70-year-old man, suffered a medical accident while driving on the Vanderbilt and Atlantic Avenue flyovers in Prospect Heights at 12:44 p.m. and lost control of his vehicle. I’m here. The concrete jersey that separates the road from the LIRR’s Atlantic Yards below.
Both victims were taken to New York-Presbyterian’s Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where the driver was pronounced dead. A female passenger in the car was reported to be in critical condition as of Friday afternoon.
The rail yard was to be covered with a platform as part of a larger Pacific Park development project underway nearby, but completion of the project was plagued by delays. Some people in the area said the accident could have been avoided if the depot had been covered.
“I hope the city takes this very seriously and makes it difficult for cars to pass,” said Kemberly Damas, who was in the area when he heard the crash. Find out, if so, the person is now saying he is alive.
