Michigan’s Best Local Eats: Ogma’s Polish Fried Rice combines hibachi and Polish cuisine

Jackson, Michigan – Ogma Brewing Co. prides itself on being the best place to enjoy the best beer and comfort food in Jackson.

Andrew Volk owns the brewery with his brothers Troy and Kevin Craft. They will open in 2021, but for the first few weeks there was no food on the menu.

But Volk said he can now find a variety of items, including traditional favorites that people would expect to find at a brewery, as well as some unique options. He added that he also tries to offer products with a different taste from downtown.

“So there’s definitely an Asian fusion kind of vibe going on, but we’re bringing some of the crowd favorites,” Volk said.

The menu is constantly rotating, but some popular items have found permanent spots. This includes Braised Beef Nachos, Beef Dip Sandwich, Spicy Salmon Bowl, and The His Snowbird with braised chicken breast, garlic mayonnaise, organic arugula and raspberry jam on grilled ciabatta.

However, at Ogma Brewing Co., Polish fried rice is a favourite. Hot dishes are perfect for those looking for comfort food while enjoying beer. His head chef, Thomas Cale, said: The idea came from a combination of Kalamazoo’s hibachi grill and Jackson’s time working at a Polish deli.

“It’s probably like a combination of traditional Polish food and Japanese hibachi,” Kale said.

This dish is made with teriyaki fried rice, kielbasa, capsta, medium-sized eggs, roasted corn, yellow onions, green onions, and topped with sesame seeds.

The restaurant also hopes to expand in 2023, Volk said. This includes extended hours, early winter closures and canned beer, he added.

The biggest change they are looking forward to is the addition of a beer garden next to the alley. Staff are working to clean it up and add fences, picnic tables, etc. An outdoor stage will also be added to the host band, he added.

“We are thrilled that people are enjoying the sun. “Bright He is also a place with a lot of wall murals, so visually it’s already a cool place.”

Ogma Brewing Co. is located at 129 E. Michigan Ave. The restaurant is open from noon to 8:30 PM Tuesday-Thursday and from noon to 9:30 PM Friday-Saturday.
