Cleveland community remembers Pope Benedict XVI
“We mourn the loss of the man who led Universal Church for eight years. He was a great teacher,” said Edward Malesic, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland. Bishop Edward Malesik and others say his presence will be greatly missed.
“It was sad because he did so much for people he didn’t know. said.
To honor his legacy, Bishop Malesic invited people like Francis Dinuncio to join him in prayer on Saturday afternoon at the Basilica of St. John the Evangelist.
“We are gathered to thank Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI for the gift he gave to the Church and to pray for his soul. That is what we are doing tonight at Mass in the Cathedral. Yes, and throughout the parish of the parish, we are praying for his soul,” Maresic said.
