Idaho college murders: Bryan Kohberger parents release statement as childhood friend reveals new details about WSU grad student

Moscow, Idaho — A 28-year-old man charged with brutally killing four University of Idaho students in their sleep is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

Brian Kohberger is currently facing four counts of first-degree murder. He was arrested Friday in Pennsylvania, thousands of miles from the scene of the crime.

His attorney said he would waive the extradition hearing because he was “eager to be exonerated.”

Now, a childhood friend is revealing new details about a 28-year-old graduate student accused of a brutal stabbing.

Koberger’s childhood friend, Thomas, told ABC News that he described the Idaho murder suspect as “mean” in high school and that Koberger aspired to be seen as a ruler.

“He would grapple me, put me in headlocks, armbars, things like that,” Thomas said.

Coberger’s family released the following statement:

“First and foremost, our deepest condolences to the family of four who lost their precious children. No words can adequately express the grief we feel. We pray for them every day.” We will continue to pursue the legal process and we will continue to work with law enforcement agencies to seek the truth and uncover the unknown. Rather than judging and making false assumptions, we are seeking to further his presumption of innocence.Our family and those affected by the loss can proceed with the legal process.”

A small community in Moscow, Idaho, has been in terror for weeks after roommate Cary Gonsalves, 21. Madison Morgen, 21 years old. Zana Karnodol, 20 years old. Ethan Chapin, 20, was found stabbed to death in his off-campus residence in November.

Bryan’s father flew from his home in the Poconos to Washington state for a pre-planned cross-country road trip back to Pennsylvania in a white Hyundai Elantra, Coberger’s attorney said.

“It took about two and a half days to drive the cross-country. Mr. Koberger showed that Brian was acting normal and not out of character during the drive from Washington,” the attorney said. said.

A car was seized from the Coberger home after Brian was arrested early Friday morning.

Monroe County’s chief public defender said Coberger is eager to return to Idaho and be acquitted.

However, Moscow police believe they have arrested the lone person involved in the murder. The police chief said that now that the name and face of the community have been decided, he hopes that more people will contribute information.

“We still have a lot of work to do, which is why we were asking people if they knew this individual was contacting us,” he said.
