Air Bags Stolen From Dozens of Cars at Maryland Apartment Complex – NBC4 Washington

A resident of an apartment complex in Maryland found her car’s windows smashed and airbags missing. It’s a familiar sight to some.

The thieves appear to have primarily targeted Hondas parked in a complex on the 3600 block of Powder Mill Road in Beltville.

“I went to bed, woke up this morning, went to the gym and saw the windows were broken,” said Anthony Novo.

“I went out and it was a feeling of disbelief,” said Keya Tompkins.

“They took away the airbags. I spoke to the police and they said 25 cars had been broken in,” Jermaine Swaby said.

Those affected say the break-in happened overnight.

“It’s amazing that it happened to so many cars and nobody got caught,” Novo said.

And replacement is not cheap. Mr Thompkins said he would have to pay $500 to replace it. She says she never stole anything else each time they broke into her car.

“Just three airbags,” she said.

Novo said he decided to move.

“Today I will send them a letter stating why I am moving,” he said.

“My options are to either retire or pay the deductible,” Tompkins said. “I have to keep paying the deductible and this is affecting my insurance as well.”

The rental office was closed on Mondays.

News4 has reached out to Prince George County Police, but has yet to hear back.
