Brackenridge police chief Justin McIntire killed in shooting – WPXI
Brackenridge, Pennsylvania — Justin McIntyre was appointed Chief of Police in Brackenridge on January 2, 2019.
Exactly four years later, a gunshot rang out in downtown Brackenridge, killing McIntyre.
Alderman Dino Lopreiato said McIntire stepped up and helped the former mayor when he retired after 20 years, according to a Trib news partner.
“He was great,” Lopreiato told Trib in 2018. He has done exemplary work at Brackenridge for many years. “
According to Allegheny County 911, first responders were called to 800 Sixth Avenue just after 4:00 p.m. on January 2, 2023.

Allegheny County Police Chief Chris Kearns said McIntyre was shot in the head.
Another officer was shot in the leg at another scene. He is listed in stable status.
Governor-elect Josh Shapiro released a statement in memory of McIntyre, saying:
Today’s tragedy in Brackenridge is a reminder of the courage of those who risk their lives every day to protect us. Police Chief Justin McIntyre ran into danger to keep Pennsylvanians safe and made the ultimate sacrifice in serving his community.
Chief McIntyre, his family and his fellow officer who was injured on duty tonight are in my prayers. May the memory of Chief McIntyre be blessed.
Aaron Lamont Swann Jr. has been named a suspect in the shooting. Although he was from Duquesne, he was known to frequent the Penn Hills area.
According to multiple sources, Channel 11 Swan was shot dead by police after being chased through the city of Pittsburgh.
