Ron Rivera: No regrets about starting Carson Wentz, no QB decision yet for Week 18

Commanders head coach Ron Rivera returned quarterback Carson Wentz to the team’s starting line-up for Week 17 against the Browns, but the move didn’t pay off.

Wentz finished the game with 16 of 28 passes for 143 yards with no touchdowns and three no interceptions. He rushed for a 1-yard touchdown, but was sacked three times and had a passer rating of 31.4.

Still, when asked Monday if he regretted starting Wentz, Rivera replied, “No.”

“For me, it was always about winning and it was in our hands. So basically we were in control of our destiny – and that’s the truth of the matter.” “Being 0-2-1 in the last three games is probably what really drove me more than anything else, and that’s what I saw. Like I said, coming out of the final quarter of the 49ers game, I was relatively optimistic about what Carson could do.

“We thought we could run the ball. Even if we ran the ball well, I think we could have run the ball a little better. But again, I felt like I needed a little something after going so the decision was madeMore [in] That three-game stretch is 0-2-1. ”

Rivera said he has yet to make a decision on who will start in the Week 18 game against Dallas. However, he said the commander would play to win despite being knocked out of postseason contention.

Commander could go back to Taylor Heinicke, stick with Wentz, or start fifth-round rookie Sam Howell to see his progress after remaining on the roster all season.

Last week, Rivera announced his QB decision on Wednesday, so it makes sense to follow the same timeline for the final game of the 2022 season.
